Try these hacks to keep your home smelling amazing all the time!

When we use artificial sprays and scents, what we do is cover up the odors instead of getting rid of them. The best way to do away with odors would be to ABSORB them. What you’ll need is baking soda, water and a slow-cooker.

  • Pour water into your slow-cooker and add 3 tablespoons of baking soda.
  • Mix the ingredients together and turn the cooker to low heat.
  • Keep the lid off and simmer until all the odors are absorbed. Be watchful to make sure that all the water does not evaporate and leave the baking soda burning.
  • To the mixture, you can add a slice of lemon or cinnamon stick or any other essential oil that you might find useful.

Owning a pet is one of the best things ever. However, the responsibility that comes with it cannot be minimized. All pet owners are familiar with some of the smells that may arise from having a pet in your house. Pet odors can be really irritating to have in your house.

Here is a solution for this common problem:

Homemade air fresheners are convenient because you can have them in any home décor piece that you have. Some the supplies that you might need include: a mason jar, craft paper, needle or toothpick, baking soda and Downy Unstopables in ascent of you choice.

  • Cut the craft paper in the size of the mason jar lid and set aside.
  • Fill jars about ¼ full with baking soda.
  • Add about ¼ cupful of Downy Unstopables on top of the baking soda.
  • Place the piece of the craft paper inside the outer ring of the mason jar lid. Use a needle/toothpick to poke holes in the paper then screw the cap on.

Vinegar is widely known for its cleaning properties.

  • Mix white vinegar with water (apple cider can work too, though white vinegar is the best)
  • Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and wring it to remove excess solution. Wipe the smelly parts of your house (e.g. musty furniture, fridge)
  • You can also put the solution in a spray bottle and spray to the smelly areas of your house.

Teabags are not only good for making nice, hot cups of tea, but they are also good for absorbing stubborn odors. You can hang a few teabags in your closet or kitchen cabinets to remove odors.

After months of being sat on, furniture can gather some not-so-nice odors. Pillows and cushions are the most affected. However, making a homemade fabric spray will ensure that they stay clean and smell fresh.
